On the way to the entrance to Mitzpe Hila, I think it really doesn't matter what happens at Tamar and Geffen – I got my daily trip, and it's a great trip. I've never been to this beautiful place hidden in the woods above Nahal Kziv, and Tamar and Geffen is an excellent reason to come.

I park in a small area surrounded by vegetation and admire a Mediterranean-style khan building that blends in wonderfully with the landscape. Tamar, the hostess, comes out to meet me from her house, which is a few dozen meters away. She says that the building has 3 suites, but before she shows me them, she unexpectedly cuts to stairs that go down to the basement.

Almost immediately, the nose fills with the smell of wine. The light turns on and the wine kingdom of Tamar and her husband, Yaron, is revealed. There is a small boutique winery and a beautiful visitor center designed by Tamar. Inside vaulted alcoves rest hundreds of bottles of wine made by Yaron, and on the large table in the center is displayed a rare collection of antique wine openers. Tamar explains that she takes guests here straight from the car, and after my second glass I understand why – in my current state, everything just looks good.

The (almost identical) suites have vaulted ceilings, pleasant natural tones in the rough plaster, and excellent design touches (brought to you by Tamar, the host) that make all the difference. Loyalists of the individual cabins may have difficulty with the idea of one central structure, but the hosts were careful to avoid shared walls and gave each suite a private courtyard with warm water splashes and a grove that gives a feeling of being 'alone in the world.'

In the 1st cabin, there is a jacuzzi (not a spa) in the courtyard. In the "Galil" there is also a wooden hot tub, and in the Zir suite there is a sauna.

The boutique wine cellar offers wine tastings and workshops led by the owner. When you arrive, you will receive a guided tour of the winery including tastings (the winery is for guests of the khan only). Workshops can be held for up to 10 people by prior arrangement.

The chance that you will end your visit to Tamar and Geffen not drunk is close to zero. And yes, I am actually talking about the cliché 'drunk with love'. And if not - then at least really drunk. Because when you are given unlimited house wine, all that is left is to nod, say thank you and get into the jacuzzi.
